JUNCAL ANDINO PARK |  TREKKING & GLACIER

Juncal Andino Park is an ecological park created in 1911 by the Kendrick family. This private property, preserving a pristine Andean ecosystem, covers an area of 13,796 hectares and is located in the middle of the Juncal valley, just two hours from Santiago.

It has unique natural features and a remarkable beauty. In May 2010 the park was designated "RAMSAR wetlands of international importance" as 11 other recognized sites in Chile. Wetlands are a focus of conservation because of their vital importance as a source of life, especially in hostile environments such as Juncal. This area has magnificent glaciers that are retreating slowly as a result of climate change.

We will arrive at the entrance of the park next to the intriguing and forgotten railway that crossed the Andes. From here we will enter the Andean valley following a path of low slope along the eastern bank of the river Juncal. The road leads to a huge valley, a mountain oasis of life due to the presence of water throughout the year, then cross the river Monos water.

The last section of the road becomes less clear and steeper as we continue through a drawer that reveal the presence of this huge body of ice. In this last section we will begin to feel the sheer configuration of the moraine, realizing that we are already on the glacier.
